The cute and peaceful town didn’t even have electricity until fairly recently, and there are no police in town either. Explore Bucerias

Next, Bucerias is a great little coastal town to visit that is just 20 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta airport. There, Bucerias has some of the most beautiful beaches in Banderas Bay that are ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, scuba diving, kitesurfing during windy season, and more.

During your visit to Bucerias, check out the town’s main church which is the Iglesia a la Señora de la Paz and the central plaza. There is also a large flea market near the plaza that sells a variety of souvenirs including clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, artwork, and more located close to the town’s main plaza.

Surfer Vibes in Sayulita

If you want to go where the hipsters and hippies go, Sayulita is the place to check out which is about an hour north of PV. Previously a quiet little surfing village, it’s become very popular with travelers from all around the world in the last decade.

The beach town has a relaxed atmosphere and everything is walkable so travelers really enjoy visiting. You can also rent a golf cart to drive around town if you want to. Surfers, yogis, and hip travelers love visiting Sayulita – The beach is on the open ocean so it’s ideal for surfing, and there are tons of great shops, restaurants, and a fun nightlife scene as well. 

Mountain Town Escape to San Sebastian del Oeste

Last but not least, San Sebastian del Oeste is a charming mountain town located about one hour and half inland from PV. The picturesque town is full of history and used to be a mining town. There, the cooler climate and pine trees will have you forgetting that you are just miles from the Pacific Ocean.

Today, the small town only has about 6,000 residents that maintain a traditional way of life. To get the best view in town, rent an ATV and drive to the top of the town’s lookout point which is known as La Bufa at 7500 feet above sea level. On a clear day, you can even see the ocean.
