June 2024 is quickly coming to an end as summer has officially arrived in Puerto Vallarta. While the area enjoys a warm climate all year long, summertime means increased humidity and the rainy season as well. Puerto Vallarta is located in Banderas Bay on Mexico’s Pacific Coast where most of the year is dry and sunny except for the rainy season which lasts from June through October.

You can expect a mix of sunny and cloudy days along with strong tropical rainstorms that usually only last a few hours in the afternoons or evenings. The much needed rainfall helps to revive the Sierra Madre mountains so they are lush and green again. In addition to rains, hurricane season also occurs during the summer with the peak activity usually occurring in August.

The Sierra Madre mountains offer a natural barrier that has historically kept Puerto Vallarta safe from serious damage from dangerous hurricanes.

In general, Puerto Vallarta is considered one of the safest beaches in Mexico to visit during hurricane season.
